German Influencer Dies After Honeymoon Bike Crash in Italy's Dolomites
Laura Victoria Hartig, a 30-year-old German social media influencer, died from injuries sustained in a severe traffic accident during her honeymoon in northern Italy. On June 23, while cycling in the Sella Pass area of the Dolomites, Hartig collided head-on with a motorcycle ridden by former Italian Olympic skier Peter Runggaldier. The impact was so intense that her bicycle broke in two. Emergency teams performed resuscitation at the scene before airlifting her to a hospital in Bolzano in critical condition. Runggaldier was also seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Trento.
Hartig remained hospitalized for 19 days, including a transfer to a specialized clinic in Murnau, Bavaria, near her home. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after the transfer. Hartig was known for documenting her global travels and mountain sports activities, boasting over 53,000 Instagram followers. Her final post featured moments from her wedding against the backdrop of the Alps, captioned "A bond for life." The accident occurred while she was on her honeymoon with her husband.
Peter Runggaldier, once a prominent Italian skier who competed in two Winter Olympics, requested privacy following the incident and expressed his condolences to all involved. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, with no determination yet on who was at fault.
