Former IDF Spokesman Proposes Different ID Cards to Distinguish Soldiers from Draft Dodgers

Retired Major General Moti Almoz, former IDF spokesperson and head of the Civil Administration, has suggested a novel solution to Israel's military conscription and draft evasion crisis. Speaking on the "Sheva Tisha" program on Radio 103fm with Anat Davidov and Nissim Mishal, Almoz proposed issuing identity cards in different colors or formats to officially differentiate between citizens who serve in the military and those who evade service.

Almoz identified the core issue as the lack of motivation among the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) community to join the army or workforce. He urged placing this topic at the center of public discourse without fear. According to him, all previous attempts to resolve the problem through various means have failed.

As a solution, Almoz recommended a complete shift in approach by ceasing efforts to appease the Haredi leadership. He emphasized that it is time to declare an end to pursuing them and instead require that they actively engage with the state to earn rights. He concluded with a firm statement that the government must immediately stop public funding for those who do not share in the national burden.
