Colombian Content Creator Dies After Illegal Cosmetic Procedure in Bogota Clinic
Adriana Menotas Rodriguez, a 52-year-old Colombian content creator with over 23,000 Facebook followers, died recently after undergoing a cosmetic treatment at an unlicensed clinic in Bogota. Menotas was taken to a Red Cross medical center in the city following complications but died despite medical efforts. Authorities are investigating the circumstances, with the official cause of death yet to be released.
Reports conflict on the exact procedure and timing. Prosecutors say Menotas was at the clinic for liposuction and began feeling unwell afterward. Her partner told authorities she deteriorated post-procedure. Another official statement from Bogota’s mayor, Carlos Fernando Galan, indicated she arrived at the clinic in critical condition after a surgery performed three days earlier. It remains unclear whether the liposuction occurred that morning or days before.
The clinic operated in the Muzo neighborhood of the Puente Aranda district without visible signage or medical licensing. Official records show it was registered as a hair salon authorized only for non-invasive beauty treatments, not surgical or invasive medical procedures. Despite prior health and safety restrictions imposed in November 2025 due to licensing violations, the clinic continued operations.
Following Menotas’s death, authorities raided the clinic, seizing medical equipment and biological waste, confirming unauthorized invasive procedures were performed. The health secretariat ordered a full temporary closure and confiscated 108 items including medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Since early 2025, Bogota has conducted 1,296 inspections and 590 targeted enforcement actions on aesthetic centers, imposing 155 safety measures for regulatory breaches.
Mayor Galan urged the public to report suspicious clinics and warned against undergoing surgery in unlicensed facilities. Investigations continue to determine who was involved in Menotas’s treatment and how the clinic operated despite previous sanctions. Friends and family commemorated Menotas as a hardworking, kind woman who left a lasting impact on those around her.
