Head of Tzvia Ulpana Emphasizes Firm Yet Compassionate Approach to Modesty Education

Tirtza Peniri, head of the Tzvia Ulpana in Bnei Brak, spoke with Channel 7 during the "We Were Like Dreamers" conference held by the Noam-Tzvia network in Jerusalem, addressing the issue of modesty among teenage girls. Peniri highlighted the challenges faced by today's youth, describing them as a generation full of dreams and determination to realize them. She stressed that the network remains committed to its longstanding mission inspired by Rabbi Tzvi Yehuda, which combines strict observance of commandments out of reverence for God with a strong connection to the Jewish people, the Land of Israel, and the state, without compromise.

Peniri emphasized that young people seek integrity and consistency in their educators, valuing those who firmly uphold their beliefs rather than those who yield under pressure. Discussing the challenges of enforcing modesty standards in the Ulpana, she acknowledged the delicate balance required, noting that sometimes fear of harming a girl's emotional state leads to leniency. However, she advocates for clear, supportive communication, offering practical help such as providing or funding appropriate clothing when a student does not meet dress code standards.

She addressed the common teenage perception that modest clothing is unattractive, reassuring girls that they can look beautiful while adhering to modesty. Peniri described the conference as a powerful source of encouragement, likening the educators to a large, united force moving forward together, which provides strength and inspiration to face shared challenges.
