Colonel Yishai Rozilio Appointed Commander of IDF Multidimensional Unit
Colonel Yishai Rozilio has been appointed as the new commander of the Israel Defense Forces' multidimensional unit, assuming the role during a change of command ceremony held on Tuesday at the Tel Nof base. The event was led by Major General Nadav Lotan, head of the Ground Forces, and attended by Brigadier General Ohad Maor, chief armored corps officer, along with other commanders, soldiers, and family members. Rozilio replaces Lieutenant Colonel A., who served as acting commander for the past six months.
Rozilio is a graduate of the Bnei Akiva "Nachal Yitzhak" yeshiva in Nehalim and the Har Bracha Hesder Yeshiva. He is married with seven children and resides in the settlement of Dolev in the Binyamin region. His military career includes commanding the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Battalion, serving as operations officer of the Judea and Samaria Division, and leading the Judea Brigade. He was promoted to colonel in 2022 and commanded the Judea Brigade until August 2024.
During the ceremony, Major General Lotan emphasized that the multidimensional unit is entering a significant new phase, leading operational responses close to the ground and shaping the defense concept for maneuvering forces. Brigadier General Maor highlighted the unit's lethal and multi-branch capabilities since its transfer under the Armored Corps' responsibility. Rozilio pledged to lead the unit with professionalism, initiative, creativity, and rigorous debriefings grounded in integrity and truth, aiming to influence the entire IDF.
Rozilio's career faced a setback in 2019 following the death of Corporal Evitar Yosefi during a navigation exercise, which led to his removal from command of the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Battalion and cancellation of his planned appointment as deputy commander of the Paratroopers Brigade. He was convicted of failing to follow mandatory IDF orders and sentenced to a suspended prison term. Despite this, he returned to senior command roles and now leads the multidimensional unit.
The multidimensional unit currently operates in Lebanon and is expected to continue evolving based on operational experience and battlefield challenges, maintaining close cooperation with the Armored Corps.
