Four-Year-Old Girl Frieda Hershkovitz Dies in Jerusalem Car Accident
Four-and-a-half-year-old Frieda Hershkovitz tragically died after being struck by a vehicle on Rabbi Shmuel Salant Street in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem. The accident occurred in the afternoon, and emergency teams performed resuscitation efforts before transporting her in critical condition to a Jerusalem hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Volunteers from ZAKA, led by Jerusalem district commander Bentzi Oiring and driver Tzvi Yorovitz, responded promptly to the scene. They collected evidence in honor of the deceased and supported the family at the hospital, coordinating with authorities to facilitate the burial process.
Following coordination between ZAKA's legal department, the police, and judicial authorities, the decision was made to release Frieda's body for burial without transferring it to the forensic institute, respecting the family's wishes and religious considerations. Bentzi Oiring emphasized the volunteers' continuous support for the family and the importance of honoring the deceased. Michael Gutwein, head of ZAKA's legal department, noted their role in assisting families during such difficult times while ensuring the deceased's dignity and family rights.
The community mourned deeply over the loss of the young girl in this devastating incident, which has shaken the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood.
