Amazon MGM Releases First Trailer for 'I Play Rocky' About Sylvester Stallone's Breakthrough
Amazon MGM Studios unveiled the first trailer on Thursday for "I Play Rocky," directed by Peter Farrelly, known for "Green Book." The film tells the true story of a young Sylvester Stallone struggling to break into Hollywood with his original screenplay for the boxing drama "Rocky." Central to the plot is Stallone's fight to star as Rocky Balboa himself, refusing to sell the script unless he could play the lead role. Actor Anthony Ippolito, who portrayed Al Pacino in the TV series "The Offer," plays Stallone. The cast also includes Matt Dillon, AnnaSophia Robb, and Tracy Letts.
The original "Rocky," directed by John G. Avildsen, became a box office hit and won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It launched a successful franchise with five sequels and three "Creed" spin-offs, collectively grossing $1.9 billion worldwide. "I Play Rocky" is scheduled for theatrical release in early November, exactly 50 years after the original "Rocky" premiered. The film offers a behind-the-scenes look at Stallone's early career and determination to bring his iconic character to life.
