Carrefour Raises Online Delivery Fees Following Other Israeli Supermarkets
Carrefour has announced an increase in its online delivery fees, joining other major Israeli supermarket chains like Rami Levy, Shufersal, and Victory that have recently raised their delivery prices. Starting July 14, Carrefour's delivery fee will be 35.90 shekels per order, aligning with the rates charged by most large food retailers for home deliveries. This price hike comes despite Carrefour's earlier commitment not to raise delivery fees during the "Israel Basket" program period, under which it won a tender to offer consumers a discounted basket of products.
The delivery fee increase is significant for many consumers, especially those who shop online or live far from Carrefour branches, as delivery costs are a key part of the total purchase expense. Carrefour had pledged not to increase delivery fees until the end of the year to allow customers to benefit from lower prices online, but the company has now updated the fee before that deadline.
This change coincides with leadership shifts at Carrefour, including the recent departure of CEO Michael Lubshitz, who was replaced by Inbal Harson, and the exit of the network's spokesperson, Yarden Daida. Carrefour has been participating in the "Israel Basket" initiative for about three months and will decide after the six-month agreement whether to continue for another half year. Meanwhile, customers ordering through Carrefour's website will be subject to the new delivery fee.
