Resident Attacks Yavne City CEO During Council Meeting, Prompting Security Measures
During a Yavne city council meeting on Monday evening, a resident violently attacked the city CEO, Levi Itach, by headbutting him after being asked to leave for disrupting the session. The incident required Itach to receive medical treatment, but he returned to the meeting afterward. Police arrived at the scene, arrested the suspect, and took him in for questioning.
In response to the attack, Yavne Mayor Roy Gabay announced that for the next three months, city council meetings will be held without a live audience, though they will continue to be broadcast publicly online. Additionally, the municipality and the workers' committee declared a protest by suspending public reception and phone services from 8:00 to 10:00 the following day.
The municipality condemned the violence as a serious breach, emphasizing zero tolerance for aggression against public employees. Mayor Gabay strongly denounced the act, calling it a "red line" that a civilized society cannot accept. He urged calm and responsible conduct, stressing that democratic discourse must never be replaced by violence.
