Resident Attacks Yavne City CEO During Council Meeting, Prompting Security Measures

During a Yavne city council meeting on Monday evening, a resident violently assaulted the city's CEO, Levi Itach, after forcibly entering the session. The individual disrupted the meeting and was asked to leave, but instead headbutted Itach, who required medical treatment before returning to the meeting. Police were called to the scene, and the suspect was taken in for questioning.

In response to the incident, Yavne Mayor Roy Gabay announced that city council meetings will be closed to the public for the next three months, though they will continue to be broadcast online. The municipality and the workers' committee declared a protest by suspending public reception and phone services from 8:00 to 10:00 the following day.

The city emphasized that the attack crossed a red line, condemning any violence against public officials performing their duties. Mayor Gabay strongly denounced the act, calling for calm and responsible discourse, stating that while the city supports open dialogue and criticism, violence will never be tolerated. He urged citizens to manage disagreements with respect and restraint, warning that violence must not replace democratic conversation.
