Ofri Arad Denies Leaving Steaua Bucharest Amid Early Struggles
Israeli footballer Ofri Arad has addressed the difficult start to his tenure at Romanian club Steaua Bucharest, responding to rumors that he wanted to leave the team. Arad joined the club in January during one of its most challenging periods and initially faced criticism from the club's colorful owner, Gigi Becali, who questioned Arad's physical condition and impact on the team. Becali said, "I warned about him. He had physical problems and muscle imbalance, and by the time he got into form, we had lost everything. We don't have a midfielder at the required level."
Despite this, Arad made seven appearances and scored a decisive winning goal in the heated derby against Dinamo during the playoff, securing a Conference League spot. This performance led to a shift in Becali's view, who later praised Arad as "a player who is not afraid."
In an interview with local Pro TV, Arad denied reports that he wanted to leave the club due to the tough initial months. He said, "I never wanted to leave. I didn't come here just for half a year. I don't know who spread that rumor, but I never wanted to leave. I went through a difficult period in the first months, but those who know me know I never give up. I'm happy people have seen what I can contribute to the team."
He added that even if difficult moments arise in the future, there will be no rumors about his departure. "If I leave, everyone will know, but I want to continue here and achieve my goals. I was shocked when I read that I want to leave and that I'm unhappy here. It's clear it's hard when you're injured and not playing, but I'm not a child and I knew exactly what I needed to do."
