Finance Minister Smotrich Breaks Down Thanking Wife and Daughter-in-Law at Jerusalem Conference
At the "Building a Whole" conference held at the Binyanei HaUma convention center in Jerusalem on Sunday evening, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich emotionally thanked his wife Revital and his daughter-in-law Tamar, wife of his son Benaya who was seriously injured during the recent war. Before beginning his speech, thousands of attendees stood and applauded for nearly a minute. Smotrich recalled that exactly one year ago at the same event, he had expressed gratitude to his wife for her support. Since then, his family endured a turbulent year marked by Benaya's severe injury and their evacuation from their home.
Smotrich said, "Without Revital, without the anchor, without the home, without the strength and support, I could not do what I do." Overcome with emotion, he also thanked Tamar, praising her courage and strength in caring for her husband during this challenging time. He extended his appreciation to all Israeli women, describing them as the foundation of the nation across generations, including the wives of soldiers, scholars, public figures, and community members.
Concluding his remarks, Smotrich thanked the "Building a Whole" institute, the event organizer, for its long-standing work in strengthening the foundational elements of Israel. He emphasized the importance of building homes as part of the larger home of Israel and expressed hope that the "great and holy home" would be completed before Tisha B'Av this year, God willing.
