US Launches New Strikes on Iran Amid Escalating Gulf Tensions

The direct confrontation between the United States and Iran intensified overnight as the US military announced a new wave of strikes against Iranian military targets. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), these attacks aimed to degrade Iran's military capabilities following Iranian assaults on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping corridor. CENTCOM emphasized that Iran does not control the strait and that US forces remain prepared to ensure freedom of navigation.

In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched missile and drone attacks on US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. The IRGC reported hitting fuel tanks and ammunition depots at the Jordanian base, describing these actions as the "first phase" of their response. Alarms sounded in Bahrain overnight, and heightened alertness persisted across the Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, amid fears of further escalation.

CENTCOM also stated that Iranian forces fired a cruise missile and a drone at commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, but US aircraft intercepted both threats before they could cause damage. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported dozens of explosions in southern Iranian cities such as Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Sirik, Jask, Bushehr, Ahvaz, and Mahshahr. Iranian authorities confirmed one fatality and four injuries from a US strike targeting a water pumping station in southwestern Iran.

A US official told The New York Times that this latest round of strikes was smaller in scale compared to the previous night’s attacks, which targeted approximately 140 sites across Iran. Despite the relative scale, rhetoric from both sides remains heated. Iran’s Foreign Ministry warned that the origin of attacks against Iran would be considered legitimate targets for defensive strikes by Iranian armed forces. The situation continues to raise tensions across the Gulf region with the potential for further military confrontations.
