Israeli Broadcaster Leads Mourning Prayers for Senator Lindsey Graham Following Sudden Death
During the Patriotim program on Channel 14 last night, host Yinon Magal and the panel recited the Kaddish prayer in memory of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who passed away suddenly the previous day. The recitation followed a special halachic consultation Magal conducted with Rabbi Yitzhak Zilberstein, a leading authority, who permitted saying Kaddish for a non-Jew provided that Mishnah study precedes it.
Magal explained on air that after studying Mishnah chapters from Pirkei Avot, the panel joined him in reciting the full Kaddish prayer for "Lin son of Florence, James Graham." The Mishnah passage emphasized valuing a friend's property as one's own and dedicating all deeds to the divine. The Kaddish included the traditional phrases from "Yitgadal v'yitkadash sh'mei rabbah" to "Oseh shalom bimromav." At the conclusion, Magal thanked the panel and said "Shkoyach," adding "May his memory be blessed."
