Hapoel Tel Aviv Extends Dan Otero's Contract Through 2029 to Strengthen Frontline
Hapoel Tel Aviv has announced the extension of center Dan Otero's contract until the end of the 2028/29 season, solidifying their core lineup under coach Dimitris Itoudis. Otero, who joined the club in summer 2025, was a standout player in his debut EuroLeague season, helping the team reach the playoffs for the first time. He averaged 13.9 points on 71% shooting from two-point range, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks over 42 EuroLeague games, setting a new record with 232 two-point field goals in a single season. In the Israeli Winner League, he contributed 7.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in seven regular-season games.
Following the contract extension, Otero expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue with Hapoel Tel Aviv. Coach Itoudis praised Otero's progress and high standards, emphasizing the club's ambition to elevate his game further. Sporting director George Chinas described Otero as an integral part of the club's long-term project aiming to establish Hapoel as a European basketball powerhouse.
This extension comes less than 24 hours after a similar contract renewal for Elijah Bryant, who also extended until 2029 with a significant salary increase to $5 million per season. Otero's contract, worth approximately 2.5 million euros annually, now excludes exit clauses to ensure roster stability. Alongside Bryant, Blakeney, and Tai Odiase, Otero's secured presence signals Hapoel's intent to build a durable "galacticos" team capable of competing with European giants like Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Motley’s future with the club remains uncertain after being sidelined during the season and only returning due to injuries and departures. Hapoel Tel Aviv is now focused on completing its roster with additional star players to pursue domestic titles and European success.
