Maccabi Tel Aviv Signs Israeli Guard Yam Madar to Multi-Year Deal
Yam Madar, the 25-year-old Israeli basketball guard, has officially joined Maccabi Tel Aviv after terminating his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv. Following medical examinations and completion of insurance formalities, Madar signed a three-year contract with an option for two additional years, reportedly earning around two million dollars per season plus bonuses. Madar expressed excitement about starting a new chapter with Maccabi and promised to give his best in every practice and game to help the club achieve its goals.
Maccabi coach Oded Katash praised Madar's qualities, especially highlighting his performance in the recent playoffs, and emphasized the significant role he is expected to play on the team. Katash also credited the club's ownership for their efforts in securing Madar's signing and noted the strong bond between the team and its fans, anticipating a natural and deepening connection with Madar.
Club chairman Shimon Mizrahi welcomed Madar warmly, emphasizing the joy of adding another Israeli player to Maccabi's core. Madar's basketball journey began in Hapoel Tel Aviv's youth system, where he quickly became a key player. He led Israel's under-20 national team to the 2019 European Championship and was selected 47th in the 2020 NBA draft by Boston. Madar then played two seasons with Partizan Belgrade, earning the EuroLeague Young Player of the Year award in 2022-23.
In 2023, Madar signed with Fenerbahçe in Turkey before moving to Bayern Munich in Germany, where he struggled for consistent playing time. He returned to Israel in December 2024, signing a major contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv and winning the EuroCup in April 2025. Last season, Madar averaged 13.2 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game in the Israeli league, with a strong playoff performance. However, his EuroLeague minutes were limited, averaging 9.4 minutes and 3.1 points over 16 games.
