Grandson of Sanz Rebbe Sentenced to 20 Days Military Prison for Draft Evasion

The grandson of the Sanz Rebbe was arrested at a military recruitment office on Thursday after arriving to regularize his status and submit documents for a military service exemption. Earlier that week, on Tuesday, he returned from abroad with his young son but was not detained at the border due to the circumstances of his arrival. Upon presenting exemption paperwork at the recruitment office, he was taken into custody and transferred to the military police. On Friday, a military judge sentenced him to 20 days in military prison. It remains unclear whether an appeal will be filed or if protests will follow the arrest and sentencing.
