Poll Shows New York Mayor Adams More Popular Than Netanyahu Among US Jews
A recent AP poll reveals that New York City Mayor Eric Adams enjoys higher approval among American Jews than Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Conducted from June 11 to 17 among 1,022 Jewish adults in the United States, the survey found that 44% view Adams positively compared to 39% negatively. In contrast, only 32% hold a favorable opinion of Netanyahu, while 59% view him unfavorably.
The poll also highlights shifting attitudes toward Israel's military actions in Gaza following the October 7 attacks. While 73% of respondents considered Israel's initial military response justified, support for continued operations in Gaza has dropped to 42%. Additionally, 30% of those surveyed believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
In response to the poll, Mayor Adams expressed pride in serving the city with the largest Jewish population in the US and emphasized his commitment to all New Yorkers. The findings reflect nuanced perspectives within the American Jewish community regarding Israeli leadership and ongoing conflict in Gaza.
