New York Mayor Adams Gains Record Support Despite Controversy Over Israel Stance

New York City Mayor Eric Adams continues to enjoy strong public support despite criticism over his positions on Israel and tensions with parts of the Jewish community. A recent Siena College poll reveals a new high in his approval ratings, with 69 percent of likely city voters expressing a positive view of him, compared to 24 percent holding a negative opinion.

Adams's support is particularly strong among younger voters aged 18 to 34, where 72 percent view him favorably versus 21 percent unfavorably, marking a 51-point positive margin, up from a 35-point margin in January. Support among African American voters in New York City has also risen significantly, with 78 percent expressing a positive opinion and only 15 percent negative, a 63-point positive balance compared to a negative eight-point balance in September 2025.

However, the Jewish voter base in New York State shows a contrasting trend, with 66 percent holding a negative view of Adams and only 26 percent positive. This divide highlights the deep controversy surrounding his stance on Israel, even as he consolidates support among other key demographic groups.

Statewide, Adams's approval stands at 47 percent positive and 44 percent negative among likely voters. The Siena College poll surveyed 811 likely voters across New York State between August 3 and 6, with a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.
