Israel Rail Faces Unprecedented Crowds Amid Summer Track Upgrades Near Tel Aviv
On Thursday, Israel Railways began upgrade and maintenance work on the railway line between Ganei Aviv and Kfar Chabad. These works, announced in advance, are scheduled during the summer months due to typically lower passenger demand. However, significant disruptions are expected on train routes connecting Tel Aviv, Lod, and Beersheba today, tomorrow, and Saturday night.
To mitigate the impact, free shuttle services and dedicated bus lines have been arranged, but heavy congestion remains likely. Passenger Saar, boarding at Rishon Lezion en route to Tel Aviv, described the situation as "the busiest train I've seen in months," noting large groups of soldiers crowding the passageways and travelers forced to walk long distances along the train to find available space to board.
Israel Railways urges passengers to plan accordingly and expect delays during this period of essential infrastructure work.
