MK Tali Gottlieb Condemns Left-Wing Hypocrisy Over Housekeeper Remarks in Knesset Speech
In a passionate speech delivered in the Knesset on Wednesday, MK Tali Gottlieb sharply criticized what she described as the hypocrisy of the political left following journalist Miki Lewin's comment to Minister Idit Silman. Lewin had told Silman, "In October you will be out of a job, I am looking for a housekeeper," a remark that Gottlieb said was insulting and demeaning. Gottlieb expressed personal discomfort with the idea of an older woman cleaning her home but emphasized that Lewin's offer came from a place of contempt rather than respect.
Gottlieb further accused feminist organizations of remaining silent on the issue, arguing that this silence reveals a selective protection of women's rights that favors "enlightened" left-wing women while disregarding domestic workers. She suggested that the left views cleaning work as inferior and those who perform it as undeserving of protection or respect.
Addressing Silman directly, Gottlieb condemned her as embodying "everything ugly about a left-wing woman" including arrogance, disdain, belittlement, and baseless hatred. She highlighted the contradiction between the left's rhetoric and its actual behavior toward people, calling Silman's words "repulsive" and accusing her of harboring hatred and lacking vision.
The speech sparked significant attention as it challenged the left's stance on feminism and social respect, focusing on the treatment of domestic workers and the broader implications for women's rights discourse in Israel.
