Israeli President Herzog Meets Shin Bet Chief and Election Committee Chair to Secure Upcoming Elections

Israeli President Isaac Herzog convened a rare meeting on Thursday with Shin Bet chief David Zini and Supreme Court Deputy President and Central Election Committee Chair Noam Solberg. The meeting, initiated by Zini, focused on preparations for the upcoming elections and emphasized the importance of cooperation among all bodies to ensure a fair and proper electoral process.

Herzog highlighted the national significance of election integrity, warning against foreign digital interference and internal threats aimed at undermining Israeli society by compromising election purity. He expressed confidence in the Central Election Committee's ability to meet these challenges with the support of the Shin Bet.

Solberg stressed that election integrity is paramount and described the extensive efforts of the committee's workforce, which will grow from 60 to 1,300 employees and reach 90,000 on election day. He called the meeting at the President's residence crucial for addressing the challenges ahead.

Shin Bet chief Zini affirmed that the agency operates under the direct authority of the Election Committee chair to safeguard the elections' legitimacy. He underscored the critical importance of the election day for Israeli democracy and confirmed that all efforts are dedicated to maintaining order and fairness, following the Supreme Court deputy president's directives.

The meeting reflects heightened vigilance against foreign digital threats and a unified commitment by Israel's top security and judicial officials to protect the democratic process in the upcoming elections.
