US Strikes Over 80 Iranian Targets Including Khamenei's Residence After Attacks on Commercial Ships
The United States launched a military strike against Iran early Wednesday in response to a series of attacks by Tehran on three commercial tankers near the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman. Prior to the strikes, Washington announced it was ending sanctions relief on Iranian oil sales, a key element of previous agreements, aiming to punish Iran and increase economic pressure.
Following the attacks, footage circulated on social media showing extensive damage to the residence of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Explosions were also reported in Bandar Abbas, Iran. The U.S. Central Command summarized the operation, stating that American forces targeted over 80 sites with precision munitions. These included Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes were intended to degrade Iran's ability to continue attacks on international shipping passing through this critical trade corridor. The U.S. military emphasized the immediate nature of the response to Iran's recent hostile actions against commercial vessels.
