Israeli Health Ministry Warns of Severe Contamination in Seven Northern Streams
The Israeli Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection have issued warnings against entering seven streams in northern Israel due to dangerously high bacterial contamination levels. The affected streams include the Jordan River (from Joseph Bridge to Arik Bridge), the Hexagon Pool, Gilabon, Zaki, Yehudiya, Tzalmon (Haruv Pool), and Kaziv (Ein Tamir and Ein Hardalit).
Water samples taken on July 6 revealed bacterial counts exceeding the Health Ministry's safety recommendations. Notably, the Zaki stream showed 2,800 fecal coliform units, while the Tzalmon stream exhibited an uncountable amount described as a "covered plate," indicating extremely high contamination. The ministries are continuing to monitor and sample these water bodies to assess ongoing risks.
The warnings highlight the potential health hazards of swimming or entering these streams, emphasizing the need for public caution until contamination levels decrease and water quality improves.
