Belgian Choir 'Zimro' Revives Classic Hasidic Melody with Innovative Vocal Arrangement
The Belgian choir Zimro, renowned across Europe for its contributions to Jewish music, has released a unique vocal clip for the traditional Hasidic melody "Nigun Lelov" during the period of Bein HaMetzarim. Established in Belgium, Zimro has gained acclaim for major productions such as "A Tanz in Europe," "Ani Maamin," and "Hodu LaHashem," earning widespread success across the continent.
This new release marks a departure from instrumental performances, focusing solely on vocal harmonies. The arrangement, crafted by Yehoshua HaAsheel Hanig, transforms the choir into a living human orchestra. Each member assumes distinct roles, from leading melody to rich vocal harmonies and beatboxing effects that perfectly emulate musical instruments, creating a layered and immersive sound without electronic instruments.
"Nigun Lelov," originally composed by Rabbi David Tzvi Shlomo of Lelov, has been a staple in Hasidic celebrations for generations. Zimro’s rendition offers a fresh and vibrant interpretation, bringing new life to this foundational melody. The accompanying video provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous studio recording process, showcasing the choir’s precision and artistry.
The recording was engineered by Ushi Glick (The Studio) and Yanki Tsement, while the visual production and editing were handled by producer Yossi Bent (Bent Social), who translated the choir’s dynamic vocal performance into a captivating visual experience. Zimro’s innovative blend of unique vocal color, disciplined studio work, and soulful traditional melodies delivers a high-quality, inspiring soundtrack for listeners during the solemn days of Bein HaMetzarim, revitalizing cherished classics.
