IDF Veteran Rabbi Leads Annual Healing Prayer at Safed Cemetery on 456th Yahrzeit

On Wednesday, the 456th anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, a leading Kabbalist and teacher of Rabbi Isaac Luria, will be commemorated at his gravesite in the ancient cemetery of Safed. Rabbi Hezekiah Yosef Mishkovsky, the supervisor of the Acharit Torah Yeshiva and a close disciple of Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, will lead prayers and the completion of the sacred book 'Tomer Devorah' at the site. This event is dedicated especially to donors of the 'Kupat Ha'Ir' charity fund and those in need of healing.

'Tomer Devorah,' authored by Rabbi Cordovero over four centuries ago, is revered for its spiritual efficacy in protecting against and healing serious illnesses, including cancer. The book is studied regularly by many, including the late Rabbi Shteinman, who recommended consistent study as a powerful segula (spiritual remedy) for health and salvation. Rabbi Mishkovsky and his family maintain a monthly study of the text, attributing personal healing to its practice.

During the memorial event, the prayer group 'Shluchai Kupat Ha'Ir' will recite the book's completion, followed by special prayers and the recitation of ten Psalms composed by Rabbi Shlomo Halevi Alkabetz for the sick. The names of donors and those seeking healing will be mentioned individually, and a special spiritual contract for health and salvation will be signed at the gravesite.

This longstanding tradition, upheld for 456 years, is regarded as a unique and potent spiritual safeguard. Participants are encouraged to submit names for inclusion in the prayers through the charity's designated channels. The event underscores the enduring faith in the healing power of Kabbalistic study and prayer within the Safed community and beyond.
