Religious Zionism Party Sets July 26 Primaries to Choose Knesset List
The Religious Zionism party has officially launched its internal primary elections to determine its candidate list for the upcoming Knesset elections. The party's leadership approved a rapid schedule, with the deadline for candidate registration set for July 21 at 23:59, and the primaries scheduled for July 26. Voting will be conducted physically at polling stations, with locations and hours to be announced later. Due to some central committee members serving in reserve duty or abroad, a special exceptions committee will address attendance challenges. The party's management, excluding current Knesset members running in the primaries, will oversee the election process.
Party CEO Yehuda Wald explained the accelerated timeline aims to avoid the August recess and enable a strong campaign launch. He urged members to conduct the primaries with fairness and mutual respect, reflecting the party's values. The primaries are expected to generate interest as the party seeks to refresh its candidate list. Notably, Tzvika Mor, father of captive survivor Eitan Mor and chairman of the Tikva Forum, recently joined the party and secured the third spot on the list. Conversely, MK Moshe Solomon is unlikely to continue after opposing the Basic Law on Torah Study, leading to his removal from party committees.
Recent polls show the Religious Zionism party recovering from earlier struggles to cross the electoral threshold, now polling around five seats. However, the party's influence remains limited without alliances or the addition of prominent political figures to broaden its voter base. The party aims to complete the internal election swiftly and proceed with a unified list for the general elections. Candidate registration forms and further technical updates will be distributed in the coming days.
