Dor Micha Signs Historic Two-Year Deal with M.S. Ashdod in Second Division
Dor Micha, a prominent Israeli midfielder, has surprised the football community by signing a two-year contract with M.S. Ashdod, a club competing in the Liga Leumit, Israel's second division. This marks the first time in his career that Micha, who previously played for top Israeli teams and won titles, will compete outside the premier league. The deal is notable for its unprecedented salary in the second division, with Micha set to earn approximately 200,000 euros net per season, equivalent to about 60,000 shekels per month, far exceeding typical wages in the league.
The signing followed intense negotiations lasting over two weeks, during which M.S. Ashdod demonstrated strong commitment to securing Micha. He had offers from Hapoel Ramat Gan and Hapoel Haifa, and interest from Bnei Yehuda, but Ashdod's persistence, aided by Micha's close friend and Ashdod star Roee Gordana, was decisive. Gordana, backed by club owner Jacky Ben Zaken, convinced Micha of his pivotal role in the team’s future plans.
Micha's contract includes additional benefits such as a car allowance and bonuses, underscoring his importance to the club. For context, last season's highest earners in the Liga Leumit made around 35,000 shekels net monthly, highlighting the exceptional nature of Micha's salary. While Ashdod has yet to appoint a head coach and its league status remains uncertain due to ongoing issues with Tiberias, Micha is expected to be a central figure and face of the club alongside Gordana.
