Extortion Scheme Leads to Double Murder in Bukata Contractor Case
Recent arrests in the double murder case in Bukata have shed light on a tragic sequence of events rooted in an extortion scheme. The case began with a business relationship that turned violent, involving contractor Marwan Abu Shaheen, who was targeted by a criminal group demanding payments under threats. The indictment, filed about six months ago, details how the extortionists operated, ruining lives and resorting to violence without hesitation.
The accused extortionists include Akram Ali Shomri, Nahi Shomri Shomri, Karim Ali Shomri, Naseeb Jad Madah, and Il Kamal Shawi from Kisra-Sumei, along with Walid Nazem Atallah from Mirka and Hilal Wasim Azam from Abu Snan. The extortion started over unpaid checks handed to the group by Abu Shaheen's former business partner. The suspects claimed to represent known crime families and pressured Abu Shaheen through meetings and escalating threats, including one hinting at armed violence if Abu Shaheen did not comply.
Under intense pressure, Abu Shaheen agreed to a harsh payment plan totaling 2,450,000 shekels, including an immediate cash payment of 200,000 shekels and a Jeep Wrangler valued at approximately 160,000 shekels. One suspect even attempted to launder the stolen vehicle by selling it at his car lot. Despite these payments, the extortion demands increased, with the debt allegedly rising to 5 million shekels after a dispute over payment amounts.
Abu Shaheen refused to yield to the growing demands, prompting the suspects and others to plan a shooting attack on his home. They fired 11 bullets at the house while his wife was inside and then hid the weapons nearby to obstruct police investigation. The indictment charges the suspects with extortion by threats, but the case escalated further when Abu Shaheen and Saada Saada, who was caught at the scene, were murdered. Recent arrests may reveal the full connection between the extortion and the murders.
