Driver Hits Three Girls at Ramat Gan Crosswalk and Flees, Police Arrest Suspect
A 48-year-old driver struck three girls at a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of HaRav Herzog and Yitzhak Rabin streets in Ramat Gan on Monday morning and fled the scene. The girls were lightly injured and received initial medical treatment from Magen David Adom teams before being taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Police from the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan station quickly launched an investigation, collecting witness statements and reviewing security footage to track the fleeing vehicle. Within a short time, officers located and arrested the suspect in Ramat Gan. A 32-year-old man who was with the driver at the time was also detained for questioning.
The suspects were transferred to the Traffic Investigations Unit of the Tel Aviv District Police for further inquiry into the circumstances of the accident and the driver’s decision to abandon the injured girls. Israeli law treats hit-and-run offenses as severe crimes, carrying mandatory prison sentences regardless of the accident’s cause. Drivers involved in accidents are legally required to stop, summon emergency services, and provide first aid.
The police emphasized the seriousness of hit-and-run incidents, noting a recent rise in such cases nationwide. They urged the public to remain vigilant and report any hit-and-run accidents promptly with accurate vehicle details. Further updates on the investigation are expected.
