Water System Collapse Leaves Hundreds Without Water in North Tel Aviv Building

Residents of a well-known residential building in northern Tel Aviv, formerly the Mandarin Hotel, have been without water for three days due to repeated pipe bursts that have now caused a complete system failure. Hundreds of tenants report being unable to shower, flush toilets, or perform basic hygiene tasks. The ongoing issues have worsened over recent months, with the latest breakdown representing the culmination of a series of unresolved plumbing problems.

Footage from the building reveals severe water damage, including collapsed ceilings and heavy leaks in public areas, commercial spaces, and near elevators. Last week, firefighters were called to the site after smoke was detected coming from the building's electrical systems, prompting concerns about water infiltrating electrical infrastructure and risking structural collapse and endangering residents' lives.

Residents blame the building owners and management company for neglecting comprehensive repairs due to the high costs involved. According to a tenant named Zvi, the owners and the tenants' committee refuse to invest in necessary renovations, instead placing blame on the management company, which denies responsibility. The residents warn that the poor maintenance is partly due to future plans for urban renewal and demolition, leading to risky temporary fixes that cause failures in other parts of the system.

The residents emphasize that their quality of life is severely affected, with daily health and safety hazards increasing. Zvi stated, "You can't shower or brush your teeth. Every local repair causes a collapse somewhere else." Firefighters' intervention and ongoing water damage highlight the urgent need for a full infrastructure overhaul to prevent further deterioration and potential danger to the building's occupants.
