Intelligence Expert Warns Hamas Continues Military Build-Up Despite Ongoing Conflict
Rafael Hayon, a civilian intelligence expert who warned before the October 7 Hamas attack, cautioned on Sunday that Hamas is still strengthening militarily and economically despite ongoing fighting. In a radio interview with 103FM, Hayon revealed that Hamas continues to smuggle weapons and drones into the Gaza Strip and recruit new militants. He noted that over 20 drones, each capable of carrying 85 kilograms, entered Gaza from Israeli territory in the past month and remain inside the enclave. Although the Israel Defense Forces are aware of these drone infiltrations, Hayon said it is too late to prevent their presence now.
Hayon also explained that Hamas no longer relies on Qatari funds as it generates income through various charitable organizations, all of which he found to be linked to Hamas operatives. Despite some operational challenges related to internal egos, Hayon continues to monitor developments in Gaza using his listening equipment, which was temporarily confiscated by the IDF after the war began but later returned. He emphasized that no entity currently prevents him from gathering intelligence, which he considers vital for saving lives.
Summarizing the situation, Hayon warned of a troubling reality in Gaza, highlighting that Hamas is intensifying its military capabilities and continuously recruiting new terrorists. His assessment underscores the ongoing threat posed by Hamas despite the current conflict conditions.
