Jurgen Klopp Set to Become Germany National Team Coach After 2026 World Cup Exit

Two years after leaving Liverpool, German coach Jurgen Klopp is poised to return to the sidelines as the head coach of the Germany national football team. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 59-year-old will soon sign a long-term contract to take over the national team following Germany's disappointing performance at the 2026 World Cup.

Julian Nagelsmann, who had led Germany for three years and remained in charge after their Euro 2024 quarterfinal exit, was dismissed after Germany's early elimination in the round of 32 by Paraguay. Klopp, who has been on a coaching hiatus since departing Liverpool, has recently worked as a football analyst and as a football director at Red Bull.

This appointment marks Klopp's first time coaching a national team, having previously managed Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool since the early 2000s. The German Football Association is expected to finalize the deal soon, entrusting Klopp with rebuilding the national squad after the World Cup setback.
