Reserve Colonel Ofir Levi Appointed Deputy Head of Israel's National Security Council
The Israeli government is set to approve the appointment of Reserve Colonel Ofir Levi as the new deputy head of the National Security Council (NSC), replacing Gil Reich who recently completed his term. Levi, 51, is a former armored corps officer who retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel. After his military service, he worked as a border defense consultant at Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Politically, Levi is affiliated with the Religious Zionism party, and one of his sons serves as a parliamentary aide to Knesset member Tzvi Sukkot.
The legal opinion attached to the appointment proposal highlights a significant legal challenge due to the appointment not fully meeting the requirements for adequate female representation. Nonetheless, the appointments committee and the legal advisor concluded there is no legal barrier to approving Levi's nomination.
