Marie Peizam to Appear Before Special Committee Requesting Sentence Reduction for Daughter's Murder
Marie Peizam, who murdered her five-year-old daughter Rose Peizam in 2008, is set to appear before a special parole committee following her request to reduce her life sentence. The hearing was postponed last month due to concerns it might be delayed again, after Peizam received a negative opinion related to her and her partner's conduct in prison. Peizam first applied for a sentence reduction in 2021 to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, but her request was denied in March 2022. She has claimed to have undergone rehabilitation while incarcerated.
About five years ago, Peizam petitioned the Jerusalem District Court to transfer her imprisonment to France, citing her French citizenship and strong ties to the country, as well as isolation in Israel where her close family lives. This petition was also rejected. In 2011, the Petah Tikva District Court sentenced Roni Ron to life imprisonment for murder and Peizam for incitement to murder. In December 2014, the Supreme Court accepted the state's appeal to change Peizam's charge to murder and rejected Ron's appeal against his sentence.
Peizam has made multiple attempts to reduce her sentence or serve it in France, but all requests have been denied so far. The upcoming committee hearing marks the latest step in her ongoing legal efforts to shorten her life sentence.
