Killer Couple's Wedding Canceled Amid Public Outcry and Rehabilitation Focus

Marie Pizzam, convicted of murdering her daughter Rose in 2008, has called off her planned wedding to fellow inmate Mujahid Dar'azi, who is serving a life sentence for a 2015 terror attack that killed David Bar.

The couple's intention to marry had sparked significant public outrage and strong opposition from the Israel Prison Service (IPS). The primary reason for the cancellation is this widespread opposition, coupled with Pizzam's desire to concentrate on her rehabilitation efforts ahead of her parole board hearing.

Despite her efforts, there is no expectation that Pizzam will be granted parole. Her attorney, Kobi Avital, stated that Pizzam has long carried deep sorrow and sincere remorse for her actions and the tragedy of her daughter's death. He added that she has undergone significant therapeutic processes during her imprisonment, taken responsibility, and undergone genuine change. Avital expressed hope that the parole board would consider Pizzam's journey and determine that the time has come to commute her sentence, without diminishing the severity of her crime.

Pizzam has been incarcerated since 2015, the same year Dar'azi began his sentence for the terror attack. The planned wedding had been a point of contention, highlighting the complex issues surrounding inmate rights, public safety, and rehabilitation within the Israeli prison system.
