Magen David Adom Issues Critical Health Guidelines for 17th of Tammuz Fast
Ahead of the 17th of Tammuz fast beginning Thursday, Magen David Adom (MDA) has released essential medical recommendations to help the public fast safely and avoid health complications. The emergency service reminded everyone to call 101 immediately in any medical emergency.
MDA advises drinking plenty of water before the fast and avoiding or reducing caffeine intake. For the meal breaking the fast, they recommend a balanced diet including proteins, complex carbohydrates, and vegetables, while minimizing salty or heavily seasoned foods to reduce thirst during the fast.
Pregnant women and individuals with chronic illnesses are urged to consult their doctors before fasting to assess their health status. During the fast, staying in shaded, air-conditioned environments and avoiding physical exertion or exposure to heat is advised.
If symptoms like weakness, dizziness, or general malaise occur, MDA suggests consuming a sweetened drink to prevent fainting. When breaking the fast, they recommend starting with a light drink and a small portion of bread or cake before gradually moving to a full meal to avoid overloading the digestive system.
