Israeli Recycling CEO Urges Proper E-Waste Disposal to Prevent Long-Term Pollution

Einav Ben Naim, CEO of the Israeli recycling corporation TAMI, highlighted the critical importance of proper electronic waste management during a special interview at Channel 14's Environment and Recycling Conference on Tuesday. She explained that everyday electronic devices, especially mobile phones, can become severe environmental hazards if discarded improperly. Ben Naim warned that a simple cellphone thrown into regular green waste bins could take over a century to decompose and may release toxic substances into the environment during that time.

Conversely, she emphasized that when electronic devices are sent to designated sorting and recycling facilities, they transform from environmental nuisances into valuable economic resources. Recycled materials from e-waste can serve as raw materials for local industries, turning a pollution problem into a significant economic opportunity for Israel.

Ben Naim called on the public to take personal responsibility in this national challenge, stressing that "big changes start with the small actions of every citizen at home." She underscored that educating the public on recycling and waste separation is essential for the success of Israel's environmental revolution and for ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for coming generations.
