Venezuela Earthquakes Kill 1,719 with Death Toll Expected to Rise
Five days after two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela, the official death toll has reached 1,719, with 5,034 injured. The president of Venezuela's National Assembly reported that 611 aftershocks have been recorded across the country since the initial quakes. Based on previous disaster models, the death toll could climb to around 10,000. Unofficial sources indicate tens of thousands are missing, likely due to communication system failures that have left many isolated. An Israeli delegation has been dispatched to assist in the relief efforts.
