Gantz Denounces Lapid, Claims He Has No Place in Public Life Amid New Political Party Talks

The Israeli political scene is heating up with reports of a new joint party being formed by Blue and White leader Benny Gantz, former Fire and Rescue Commissioner Dedi Simchi, and former minister Yoaz Hendel. Opposition leader Yair Lapid addressed these developments on Monday during his party's faction meeting, warning against what he called a "political conspiracy by the Prime Minister." When asked about potential candidate lists for the upcoming Knesset elections, Lapid sharply stated that Prime Minister Netanyahu is attempting to create satellite parties to siphon votes from their bloc and secure a government for himself. Lapid emphasized that Netanyahu has no other path to victory and that these satellite parties are a desperate move to win elections he otherwise cannot.

Blue and White responded swiftly and aggressively to Lapid's remarks. In an official statement, the party accused Lapid of prioritizing political calculations over national unity during the critical moments of the October 7 attacks, saying, "Anyone who on October 7, while our brothers were bleeding in the south, chose to do political math and count mandates instead of joining an emergency government, and who encouraged refusal and division, has no place in public life anymore." The statement concluded with a clear declaration of intent for the upcoming elections: "The era of old politics is over. We will form the Israel Bloc, which will establish a broad Zionist unity government capable of facing the enormous challenges Israel faces both internally and externally."

Recent reports indicated that Gantz and Simchi plan to announce a joint run in the next elections but are awaiting responses from other political figures. Simchi's office stated that he is working without boycotts or disqualifications but has nothing to announce yet. Blue and White also noted that Gantz is in talks with all political leaders and stressed the need to end political boycotts.
