Patient Dies After Suspected Error in IV Needle Insertion at Meir Hospital

A 55-year-old woman who was moderately injured in a car accident near Kalansawa was admitted to Meir Hospital and transferred to the general intensive care unit. According to reports, there was suspicion that the intravenous needle insertion was performed incorrectly. The woman’s condition deteriorated overnight, and despite efforts by hospital staff, she passed away early the next morning.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, following a collision between two vehicles on Road 5614. Alongside the woman, a 55-year-old man was also seriously injured. Medical sources explained that while IV needle insertion is a common procedure performed hundreds of times daily, it requires sterile technique, and deviations can lead to serious complications or death.

Meir Hospital has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case and reported the incident to the Ministry of Health, which is currently reviewing the matter. The hospital expressed condolences to the family but declined to provide further details due to patient confidentiality. The Ministry of Health confirmed the event is under investigation.
