Israeli Police Arrest Suspect in March Killing of Bus Driver in Holon
Israeli police have arrested a man in his 20s from Ramla on suspicion of murdering bus driver Morad Shweiki in Holon nearly three months ago. The arrest was made by the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District Police on Sunday morning. The suspect was taken for questioning and is expected to be brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court on Monday for an extension of his detention.
The murder occurred during the night of March 18-19, 2026. Shweiki, a 35-year-old bus driver from East Jerusalem, had just finished his shift and parked his bus at the Holon Lohem HaLohamim terminal near Wolfson Hospital when the assailant allegedly ambushed and shot him. Paramedics found Shweiki with severe penetrating wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Following the killing, a special situation assessment was held at the scene by the Ayalon District commander, Police Commissioner Daniel Hadad. The investigation was transferred to the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District, which has been conducting covert and overt operations to identify the perpetrators. The arrest marks a breakthrough, but police continue to investigate the circumstances and the suspect's involvement, exploring additional leads.
