Wizz Air Temporarily Suspends Flights to Israel
Wizz Air announced that it is temporarily suspending its flights to Israel on Monday and Tuesday, June 8 and 9, בעקבות the security escalation in the region. The decision comes after one of the airline’s flights from Warsaw to Ben Gurion Airport did not land in Israel and was diverted to Larnaca in Cyprus, after the pilot refused to continue to Israel. This is one of the first decisions by a foreign airline to halt operations to Israel following the latest developments.
Wizz Air said flights to Israel are currently planned to resume on June 10, subject to security developments. The company stressed that passenger and crew safety is its top priority, and that it continues to monitor the situation together with the relevant authorities.
The Israel Airports Authority said Ben Gurion Airport continues to operate as usual, following a situation assessment held by the transportation minister. It also said the authority is in continuous contact with the Transportation Ministry, the Civil Aviation Authority, Home Front Command and professional officials. The authority recommended that passengers check with airlines and follow official updates, especially given the possibility that additional airlines may change flight schedules according to security developments.
