Smotrich Claims Credit for Return of All Hostages and Cancels Hebron Agreements

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced on Sunday that all hostages have returned home thanks to his efforts. He made the statement during a podcast hosted by Nadav Perry. Smotrich emphasized that he had twice voted against a deal that would have facilitated the hostages' return, asserting that if he had not insisted to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, negotiations with Hamas over the hostages would still be ongoing.

Speaking at the MuniExpo 2026 conference on June 23, 2026, Smotrich also declared the cancellation of agreements related to Hebron. He highlighted his significant influence on the ongoing war, attributing it to his clear vision of the war’s objectives. Smotrich noted that he thoroughly reviews all intelligence materials and participates actively in discussions, claiming a pragmatic approach that avoids politicizing the war, in contrast to others. He indirectly referenced Defense Minister Benny Gantz and former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot in his remarks.

Smotrich serves as both the Finance Minister and chairman of the Religious Zionism party. His comments underline his assertive stance on security matters and his role in shaping government policy during the conflict.
