Israel’s US Ambassador Says Lebanon Framework Puts Peace Back on Track
At the signing ceremony for the framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, said the deal marked progress toward a full peace agreement. He said, “Thanks to hard work we succeeded in getting the train back on track, and it is going in the right direction.”
Leiter defined the ultimate goal as “a peace agreement between the countries, a real peace agreement, when both countries live in security and Israel’s and Lebanon’s sovereignty is respected and protected.” He added that under this framework, “Iran is out, Hezbollah is out, and the road to peace between Israel and Lebanon is in.”
