Moldovan authorities release body of Jerusalem rabbi killed in crash without autopsy
After two days of intensive efforts, Moldovan authorities completed the release of the body of Rabbi Akiva Rand, who was killed in a fatal car crash in Chisinau on Wednesday. Rand, about 30 and a resident of Jerusalem, is expected to be buried in Israel next week.
Immediately after the accident, Israel's Foreign Ministry, the Israeli Embassy in Moldova and the ZAKA rescue and recovery organization became involved to secure the scene and arrange for a quick burial. At the same time, a difficult legal battle developed with Moldovan law enforcement, which demanded an autopsy.
