Report: Kawhi Leonard could consider a dramatic move, with Toronto the likeliest fit

NBA insider Marc Stein reported Thursday, June 25, 2026, that Kawhi Leonard, 34, is once again at a crossroads and could be headed for a significant change. The discussion comes during a busy 2026 offseason that has already seen major moves, including Giannis Antetokounmpo being traded to the Miami Heat and LaMelo Ball moving to Minnesota.

According to Stein, if Leonard is involved in trade talks, there are only three teams he would be willing to extend with, his current team, the Los Angeles Clippers, or one of his former clubs, the Toronto Raptors and the San Antonio Spurs. Stein said it is still unclear whether San Antonio would want to bring him back.

He cited two reasons, the Spurs have built around Victor Wembanyama after reaching the NBA Finals, and Leonard left San Antonio in 2018 on bad terms when he joined Toronto. That makes a Spurs reunion difficult, even though it remains one of the more intriguing possibilities.

Stein believes Toronto is the team most likely to pursue Leonard. The Raptors won the 2018/19 title with him, and the team would like to pair him with its current centerpiece, Scottie Barnes. Toronto finished sixth in the Eastern Conference this season and lost to Cleveland in a seven-game playoff series, so Leonard could be the star addition that helps them take another step forward.
