Alongside a series of strikes carried out by the U.S. Air Force on a number of targets across Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the attack in Iran overnight on Thursday from the situation room, where he was together with his vice president, JD Vance, and the special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. According to Trump, a sustained bombing campaign is now under way against the Iranian regime.

The president told Fox News that 49 Tomahawk missiles were launched toward targets in Iran, some of them located only about 40 miles from Tehran. According to the president, all this is taking place while the Iranians are trying to get the United States to stop the bombing.

Trump said senior Iranian officials called him overnight. According to him, they held a direct conversation with him while he was sitting in the situation room. Trump said the Iranians asked him to stop the bombing, and he replied that, “The bombings will stop soon.” Trump also made clear that Israel is not involved in the strikes at all.

When asked what would happen if Iran did not sign the agreement proposed by the American mediators, Trump replied, “We will bomb the hell out of them tomorrow night.”

According to the report, Trump continues to keep the military option on the table if Iran does not agree to the deal, which is intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ensure it cannot advance a nuclear weapons program.

After Trump’s announcement, Iranian state media quoted a senior official who denied that Iranian officials had contacted U.S. President Donald Trump following the American strikes in the south of the country. According to the official, “Trump’s false claim that Iranian officials contacted him is a cover to avoid war with Iran.”
