Ayal Esh, the father of lookout soldier Ronit Esh, who was killed on October 7, spoke at a press conference held by the October Council ahead of the 1,000th day of the war next Thursday. He used the appearance to press for a state inquiry commission, arguing that it is unacceptable that no such body has been appointed nearly 1,000 days after the war began.
Esh said, "How is it possible that 1,000 days later, there is still no state commission of inquiry? What leadership sees the greatest rupture in the country's history and is afraid to ask questions?" He framed the demand as a matter of accountability for what he described as the biggest national break in Israel's history.
He also appealed directly to the public to take part in memorial and protest events on the 1,000th day, next Thursday. "On Thursday next week, on day 1,000, I ask every citizen in Israel to stop," he said. "Come to the square, join the march, stand with the families and demand answers."
