Israeli forces struck a suspicious motorcycle on Thursday afternoon in southern Lebanon after it reportedly approached IDF troops operating in the area. Lebanese reports said the strike took place between the villages of Zotar al-Sharqiya and Maifadoun, in the Nabatieh sector near where Israeli forces are deployed north of the Litani River.
According to the reports, an Air Force aircraft fired a missile at the motorcycle to remove an immediate threat. It was not yet clear who the riders were or what their intent was. The strike came amid a series of similar incidents in recent days in the same security zone.
This was the fourth such event within a few days in which hostile figures were reported trying to approach or attack IDF troops in southern Lebanon. On Wednesday, Givati Reconnaissance troops struck two armed Hezbollah operatives who crossed into the security area on the Ali Tahar ridge and endangered the soldiers. On Tuesday, troops identified an armed cell operating near IDF forces and later struck the militants north of the area; hours later, four militants on a bulldozer and a motorcycle crossed into the security zone and moved toward the forces in a way that posed an immediate threat.
After the repeated incidents, the IDF said it would not allow Hezbollah to harm Israeli civilians or its troops and would continue acting to remove immediate threats. Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday that even if the United States demanded it, Israel would not withdraw from southern Lebanon. He said, “IDF חייב to be on the enemy’s side and protect the settlements from inside the territory itself,” adding, “Soldiers inside, residents outside. The infrastructure is destroyed, the houses are threatening and ruined. We are not withdrawing.” The IDF said it continues operating in southern Lebanon under Operation Lion’s Roar, deployed up to 10 kilometers from the Israeli border and controlling the high ground while striking Hezbollah infrastructure and killing senior operatives.
